One cheap kitchen ingredient will leave windows “streak-free” according to cleaning expert – and it costs just 6p. Jade Oliver, showroom stylist at Express Bi-Folding Doors, swore by the kitchen cupboard staple, which costs around 6p per 100ml.
The secret is a part water and part vinegar cleaning solution, which she promised “works wonders” for “crystal clear” windows. She said: “For a streak-free finish, a simple mix of half water and half white vinegar works wonders.” After revealing the hack, Jade advised that one common method should be avoided because it can actually leave windows looking worse than before. She explained: “Avoid using too much soap, as it can leave smears.”
The cleaning guru explained the solution should be used with a smooth microfibre cloth or a squeegee for the best results.
Jade added: “Always wipe in one direction (horizontal or vertical) to prevent streaks and ensure a crystal-clear finish.”
Windows and frames should be dusted beforehand with a microfibre cloth to remove debris, which avoids it mixing with the water and creating a muddy sludge.
While soap shouldn’t be used on the glass, the frames can be cleaned with lukewarm water and mild soap, avoiding harsh chemicals that could strip the paint or damage the material.
She concluded: “Regular cleaning not only improves the appearance of your windows but also extends their lifespan by preventing dirt build-up and water stains.
“Homeowners should aim to clean their windows at least twice a year, or more frequently if they live in high-traffic areas or near the coast.”
